Don't you love it when someone says something to you that really doesn't need to be said. I mean it is so obvious that internally you think... "why did you waste the air it takes to form those words?" When I have been the "waster of words", I didn't always get the polite ignoring stare, or even the "daaaa, you're an idiot for saying" that humiliation exchange. My children loved to take me to the next level... "thank you Captain obvious"! Now, if you know me and my kids, you know that honest interchange is pretty common. I have to admit that I dish it as much as take it. But it is always a fun sparing match...
So, I'm gonna say something so obvious that you can feel free to join the chorus of collective responses. But before I do, let me tell you just three short experiences of the week.
1st - 1st and Goal camp is meeting. This camp is the brainchild of Tre' Scott. He enlisted Jeremiah Fincher and a host of other coaches to simply do a camp for kids in the neighborhood around the church. I think they are having a blast even though the turn out of kids is smaller than hoped. And in the midst of sports, they are sharing Christ's love in various ways. OK, nothing too unusual, right. But here's what excites me the most... it's being done here! I love it when we see that being "on mission" is a lifestyle and not a trip. Wowzer! That's big.
I met with our Challenge Mentors last night. Unbelievable! We won't have as many challenge groups this year but our mentors are some stout folks! Not to say that ones in the past haven't been. But as those people begin to serve in other areas or move away from Lubbock I committed to pray that God would raise up the next set of adults to work in this ministry. These guys/gals are beyond incredible and I'm more excited about this ministry than ever.
My wife has become the most amazing prayer warrior! She has always been an amazing woman, but the Lord has really excelled her growth and understanding in the past 2 years. So, when I have a need, I just ask her to pray about it. In just one area of life, let me share the results of her prayers... I said, we need to pray that God would raise up people to teach LIFE groups. Additionally, we need a class for internationals, a class for students who graduate and are working and not married, and we need a class for out of school young marrieds. This year we begin the year with 13 classes instead of 10! And I am in initial conversations with some that may be called to minister to internationals through a small group bible study at 11. I cannot help but believe that God is going to raise up the leadership for the other classes.
God is at work! And everyone said, "Thank you Captain Obvious"!

Yes, I am alive. The blog has suffered greatly over the past months (my
apologies…not that anyone reads this anyways). Because I’m trying to make
the best...

My dear uncle, I have always LOVED your passion and enthusiasm for all thing pertaining to God's work in & around His church! I'm also excited to see how it's manifesting itself through your work and influence. From what I've read through just this post alone, it appears that you're a part of quite a dynamic body of believers dedicated to seeing the Kingdom of God advanced in whatever different cool ways possible. May God continue to bless your leadership, as well as those powerful prayers of Aunt Rita!
